What does it take to be a missionary? -Part 1

I’m asked that a lot. Well, after 8 years overseas as a missionary pilot and 4 years in recruiting let me tell you.

  • First put Jesus in the driver’s seat (Prov. 3: 5-6) After 14 years of listening to a lot of people (1000’s) who contemplate a “call” into ministry, experience has shown me that most have more faith in faith than faith in Jesus. That’s one of the best ways of putting it I’ve read recently. (Borrowed from Oswald Chambers BTW).
  • 98 out of 100 “would-be missionary pilots”, at the first glimpse of difficulty or uncertainty [that circumstances will turn out as they had prayed for them to be], skedaddle back to their evening small groups declaring, “Musn’t ‘ve been God’s will or everything would have worked out as I prayed for” (aka “easily”). I guess that just validates that old saying, “If it WAS that easy everybody’d be doin’ it.”

Second…well that’ll have to wait for tomorrow.
